About Ferncharge

Ferncharge is a UK website about portable power stations: what size you need, how long they'll run your appliances, and how to use them safely. It covers power cuts at home, camping, and campervans.
We make free calculators and plain-English guides. Our aim is to help you work out the numbers for your own appliances before you buy.
What we do
- Work from published sources. Our figures come from manufacturers' spec pages and manuals, and from UK official and expert sources such as Ofgem, GOV.UK, the Civil Aviation Authority, Electrical Safety First and fire services. Each page links its sources and shows the date we last checked them.
- Fact-checked before publishing. New and updated pages go through a separate fact-check against their cited sources before publishing. Specs are rechecked at least every 3 months, and each page shows its last-checked date.
- AI-assisted. We use AI tools to help research, draft and check pages.
- Show the working. Our calculators print every formula with your numbers in it, and every default assumption is listed on our methodology page.
- Compare on specs, alphabetically. Where we list power stations, we compare manufacturers' published specs in alphabetical order by brand.
What we don't do
- We don't test products. Ferncharge has not tested any power station or appliance, and we don't say or imply that we have. If that ever changes, we'll explain exactly how the testing was done.
- No reviews, star ratings or "best" picks. We don't rank products or publish verdicts, and we don't publish customer reviews.
- No live prices. Prices change often, so we don't quote them. Where we list example models, we link to the maker's own UK product page so you can check the current price there.
- No medical, electrical-installation or legal advice. If you rely on powered medical equipment, talk to your equipment supplier or clinician about backup power.
How we make money
No affiliate programme is live on Ferncharge yet, so no links currently earn us money. When they do, some links will be affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and each one will be marked Ad. Commission doesn't affect which products we include or how we order them. Read our advertising disclosure.
Who runs Ferncharge
Ferncharge is independent. We don't sell power stations, and no manufacturer pays to be included or reviews or approves our pages. We may earn commission through links marked Ad, once a programme is live.
